European Pharmacopoeia: New Online-only Platform

With the launch of the 12th Edition of the European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur.), the compendium will be available exclusively on a new online platform. This marks the end of the printed version.

New online-only 12th Edition

The Ph. Eur. is the primary source of official quality standards for medicines, APIs and excipients in Europe. Its texts and monographs provide a legal and scientific basis for the quality of materials throughout their life cycles, thereby supporting the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare systems. From the 12th Edition onwards, the Ph. Eur. will only be available online.

Moreover, the previous three-year cycle, comprising one edition and eight supplements, is being replaced by an annual edition consisting of three issues. The 12th Edition is therefore composed of Issues 12.1, 12.2, and 12.3. Each issue will contain new and revised texts adopted at one of the three annual European Pharmacopoeia Commission (EPC) sessions. A panel to the right of each general chapter or monograph provides a summary of the text’s implementation status, based on the stated implementation date. New and revised texts for which the implementation date has not yet come into effect are labelled “not yet in force”. Corrected texts display the status “in force”, with additional information on the correction date.
