AQCG welcomes two new Board Members

The ECA Analytical Quality Control Group (AQCG) is pleased to announce recent additions to its Board. Two experienced professionals have recently joined the team: Dr Amanda Guiraldelli Mahr, who was appointed in June 2025, and Lance Smallshaw, who has been a member since November 2024. Both bring valuable international perspectives and strong scientific backgrounds to the group.

Dr Amanda Guiraldelli Mahr

Amanda Guiraldelli Mahr is a Senior Scientist at the Research Institute for Chromatography Group (RIC Group) in Belgium, specializing in analytical strategies for biopharmaceuticals. She leads the development, validation, and optimization of procedures for release testing, stability studies, and structural characterization, supporting ICH Q14 and AQbD principles implementation in collaboration with key biopharmaceutical partners. Amanda serves as an expert advisor to the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) Analytical Procedure Lifecycle Joint Subcommittee and spent over a decade at USP-holding roles as Senior Scientist and Scientific Affairs Manager - where she contributed to the development of standards such as <1220>, led cross-functional initiatives applying AQbD and predictive modeling to method development, trace impurities analysis by LC-MS and GC-MS, and reference standards characterization, while collaborating closely with global regulatory agencies.

Lance Smallshaw

Lance Smallshaw has over 40 years of experience in Pharma and Biopharma and is Head of Compendial Affairs, Global Knowledge and Analytical – Industrialization and Network Programs Team – located at UCB Pharma S.A. Belgium. He is also based in the Regulatory Intelligence Network and developing the company worldwide policy for new regulatory requirements. He further developed the company strategy and oversaw the worldwide implementation of ICH Q3D. Lance was nominated to the ECA Advisory Board in 2013, and he chairs the ECA Cannabis Working Group.
