Alfred Hunt Appointed as New Chairman of the European GDP Association

The European GDP Association has announced a change in the Board.

In 2011, EU Commission published a draft guideline on Good Distribution Practice for public consultation. The ECA Foundation Board established the GDP Group to review and comment on this guideline. In August 2016, the European GDP Group was reorganised to become the European GDP Association. Today, the Association represents more than 4,000 professionals from across the globe.

Dr Afshin Hosseiny has been the European GDP Association's Advisory Board Chairman since its foundation. He was one of the major drivers for developing the various activities. Under his leadership, the Association has developed significantly in recent years.

As Dr Hosseiny has decided to step down from his position within in the European GDP Association, Alfred Hunt joined as the Deputy Chair in 2021. After a year of the two working together, Alfred Hunt has now taken over the role as the Chairman.

Dr Hosseiny, formerly Director of Quality Assurance for the Global Supply Network of GSK, is an independent consultant supporting companies within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology supply chain. He looks back at over 36 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry in a wide variety of roles in increasing responsibilities - he conducts audits of manufacturing sites across Europe and USA, as well as preparation for and fronting of EU and FDA regulatory inspections. He is also Chairman of the ECA Executive Board. In this role, he will continue to support the activities of the European GDP Association.

Alfred Hunt has extensive experience in various roles in both medicinal products and medical devices. He is a consultant working in the GDP and GMP area for more than six years. From 2008 until 2015 he was an Inspector with the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA), formerly the Irish Medicines Board (IMB). He was also key member of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) drafting group, which developed the revised EU GDP Guidelines (2013/C 343/01). Prior to being employed with the HPRA he held various positions within the medicinal product and medical devices industries in Ireland. He is a Chemical Engineer by training.

During the annual board meeting of the European GDP Association on 15 June 2022, Alfred Hunt, on behalf of the entire board, thanked Dr Hosseiny for his many years of work as chairman of the European GDP Association and for the ideas and impulses he has provided.
