EDQM develops Live Demo for a Track & Trace System

The European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & Healthcare (EDQM) in Strasburg has been working on the topic of counterfeit medicines for a while. The EDQM has thus developed a Track & Trace system for the traceability of medicines. This system could be used across Europe and function with the existing systems in force there. Besides, it will also be compatible with non-proprietary standards like GS1.

With the launch of Phase 2 of the project about the implementation of the system, a live demo will be developed to show its functioning to authorities of the European Member States, stakeholders from the industry and patient organisations. As previously announced, workshops on the topic should take place from the fourth quarter of 2011, mainly at the premises of the EDQM in Strasburg.

Phase 2 of the project should end in 2012, after as many stakeholders as possible have interacted. Afterwards, Phase 3 concerning the implementation of the system will begin.
